With an app that has 200,000 active app users per quarter, we needed to take a step towards personalized content and wearables integration to increase engagement. However, we faced a significant challenge: we lacked any history or progress tracking at the moment, and our content personalization was limited.

PROBLEM

The absence of a clear overview of the progress often results in losing interest, impacting users’ ability to achieve desired fitness objectives. This, in turn, impacts our gym operators, who are facing the challenge of low customer retention.

GOAL

To enhance user engagement with the app, provide a progress tracking system, and lay the groundwork for future wearables integration.

IMPACT

With the Activity Log, we provided users with a tangible measure of their fitness commitment but also reignited their motivation.

APPROACH

STEP 1: RESEARCH & ANALYSIS

This project required plenty of user research, during which I dived into behaviors observed in gym & outside of it. All along the process experts and fitness coaches were involved to share their knowledge in the discovery phase. With a refined understanding of the user challenge and current market solutions, I mapped out all the pages and components that will be needed in this project and collaborated closely with our development team to discuss technical limitations, project specifications, and scope.

STEP 2: IDEATION

In this step I produced multiple wireframes experimenting with various interfaces, evaluating each one until I narrowed down to a few solutions. After that I tested these solutions and decided to move with one of the versions, arriving at the final, refined design.

STEP 3: Finished result & continuous testing

After I finalised the design and documentation we could begin development process and test this feature for improvements. To compare, the “before” image lacked a clear overview of their fitness progress. The absence of a 'finished' workout definition left users without a tangible measure of their fitness commitment. The “after”  addressed those issues. We transformed the user experience, contributing to increased user retention rates while providing users with a satisfying tracking system for their fitness journey.
